OBITUARY
Rebecca Elizabeth Detrick was born at
Kendallville, Ind., April 18, 1914 and departed this life in
the Sacred Heart hospital at Garrett November 3, 1934, at
the age of 20 years, 6 months and 15 days. She united with
the Church of the Brethren at the age of nine, during her
father's pastorate at Dayton. She graduated from Bradford
high school with the class of 1931. The following year she
spent in Juniata college at Huntingdon, Penn., taking a
special music course. Thru (sic) circumstances over which
she had no control, she was forced to give up her chosen
course of study and with the help of a personal friend she
was privileged to continue her school work taking a teachers
training course at Manchester college, graduating with the
class of 1934. Her much cherished dream was realized when
she was employed by the board of education of Pulaski
township. She spent the summer in planning her work but was
permitted to teach only two weeks. After several weeks of
intense suffereing, her frail little body could no longer
hold her spirit, and she quietly and peacefully slipped
away, leaving to mourn her departure her father and mother,
Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Detrick, two brothers, C. W. Detrick of
Cleveland, William Robert at home and Paul Bekebile of
Bradford, O., to whom she was betrothed, and a host of
friends from each community in which she was privileged to
live.
